Hemp is a plant used for a wide array of applications and contains trace amounts of the psychoactive substance found in marijuana (THC). This plant is legal to grow and add to industrial applications such as textiles, hemp flour, beauty products, or protein powders.
The hemp plant is manufactured and processed from its raw form to its commercial form. Erie Technical Systems has experience producing food grade flexible screw conveyors used in hemp flour processing. Hemp flour is material ground from the seeds of the industrial hemp plant. Hemp seeds carry a significant amount of oil, approximately 30% by weight. Once separated from the oil, the remaining seed is ground into a fine flour that can be used in cooking and baking. Hemp flour is a light material that has a bulk density of approximately 5-7 ppcf (5-7 pounds per cubic foot). Our FlexMAX® flexible screw conveyors can transfer production amounts of hemp flour from one process to the next. They can also be used for processing and transferring other hemp products such as protein powders.
